Description
Perigen is a butyrophenone derivative with antipsychotic properties that is effective in the management of hyperactivity, agitation, and mania. It also possesses antiemetic properties.
Dosage and administration
Tablet and Injection
Dosage for adults
- 0.5 mg to 3.0 mg for moderate symptomatology
- 3.0 mg to 5.0 mg for severe symptomatology
Dosage for children
50 microgram per kg body weight
Maximum daily dose
Up to 100 mg may be necessary in some cases
Interaction
- May interfere with anticoagulant properties of phenindione
- Antagonizes the action of epinephrine and other sympathomimetic agents
- Inhibits the metabolization of tricyclic antidepressants
Contraindications
- Comatose states and CNS depression due to alcohol or other depressant drugs
- Severe depressive states
- Parkinson's syndrome, except in the case of dyskinesias due to levodopa treatment
