Indications
- Acute and chronic psychoses

Pharmacology
- Selective monoaminergic antagonist
- High affinity for serotoninergic 5-HT2 and dopaminergic D2 receptors
- Binds to alpha1 adrenergic receptors
- Lower affinity for H1 histamine and alpha2 adrenergic receptors
- Potent D2 antagonist
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose range of 2-4 mg, with the possibility of up to 16 mg daily
- Titration for elderly or patients with hepatic or renal impairment
- Different dosages for psychoses, mania, and schizophrenia
Interaction
- Antagonizes effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists
- Reduces plasma clearance with chronic Carbamazepine administration
- May enhance effects of certain antihypertensives
