Indications

Pharmacology
Clomipramine Hydrochloride is an original tricyclic antidepressant, a member of the dibenzazepine group of compounds. It is presumed to influence obsessive and compulsive behaviors through its effects on serotonergic neuronal transmission.
Dosage
Initial dose is 25 mg at bedtime for about a week, with a gradual increase not to exceed 150 mg per day in adults and 75 mg per day in elderly patients. Dose can be given in divided form to reduce gastrointestinal disturbances.
Administration
Swallow the capsules whole with a drink of water. The medicine may be taken as one dose at night or as smaller doses at intervals during the day.

- MAOIs e.g. tranylcypromine, phenelzine, moclobemide
- SSRIs e.g. fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, sertraline
- SNaRIs e.g. venlafaxine
- Diuretics
- Anesthetics
- Blood pressure lowering agents (Beta blockers)
- Anti-coagulants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Clomipramine Hydrochloride or other tricyclic antidepressants
- Acute recovery phase following a myocardial infarction
- Use with MAO inhibitors within 14 days

Pregnancy & Lactation
No adequate well-controlled studies of safety for pregnancy. Limited data suggest that clomipramine is likely to be excreted in human breast milk. Known risk of damage to fetus.

- History of suicidal thoughts
- Epilepsy
- Head injury or brain damage
- Electric shock therapy (ECT)
- Heart problems
- Low potassium in blood (hypokalaemia)
- Kidney disease
- Schizophrenia or other mental health conditions
- Blood disorder
- Overactive thyroid gland
- Severe constipation
- Tumor
- Liver disease
- Low blood pressure
- Wearing contact lenses
Overdose Effects
Dryness of mouth, dilated pupils, coma, convulsions, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmia, respiratory depression, alteration in blood pressure
