Indications

Pharmacology
- Tricyclic antidepressant
- Influences obsessive and compulsive behaviors
- Affects serotonergic neuronal transmission
- Inhibits reuptake of serotonin (5-HT)
Dosage
- Initial dose: 25 mg at bedtime
- Max adult dose: 150 mg per day
- Max elderly patient dose: 75 mg per day
- Divided dose for reducing gastrointestinal disturbances
- Not recommended for children
Administration
- Swallow capsules whole with water
- Continue treatment until advised by doctor
- May take up to 4 weeks to work
- Can be taken as one dose at night or as smaller doses at intervals during the day
Interaction
- Interacts with various medicines for depression
- Interacts with MAOIs, SSRIs, SNaRIs, tricyclic and tetracyclic antidepressants, diuretics, anaesthetics, blood pressure lowering agents, and anti-coagulants
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Clomipramine Hydrochloride or other tricyclic antidepressants
- Acute recovery phase following a myocardial infarction
- Not to be used with MAO inhibitors within 14 days
