• Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor

Dosage & Administration

• Depressive illness:
  • Adult: 20 mg daily as a single dose in the morning or evening increased if necessary to max. 60 mg daily
  • Elderly: Max 40 mg daily
  • Child: Not recommended
• Panic disorder:
  • Adult: Initially 10 mg daily increased to 20 mg after 7 days, usual dose 20-30 mg daily; max. 60 mg daily
  • Elderly: Max 40 mg daily
  • Child: Not recommended

• Ketoconazole
• Itraconazole
• Macrolide antibiotics

• Manic phase

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Citalopram should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus
• Lactation: Citalopram is excreted in human breast milk. The decision whether to continue or discontinue nursing or Citalopram therapy should take into account the risks for the infants and the benefits for the mother

• Hepatic and renal impairment
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Overdose Effects

Doses as high as 2000 mg have been taken without signs of alternation in cardiovascular parameters. Respiratory depression, convulsion may occur
