Citapram 20 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Depressive illness
• Panic disorder

Pharmacology

• Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor
• Antidepressant property
• Little or no effect on noradrenaline, dopamine
• Inhibitory activity

Dosage & Administration

• 20 mg daily as a single dose
• Max. 60 mg daily for adults
• Max. 40 mg daily for elderly
• Not recommended for children
• Initially 10 mg daily for panic disorder

Interaction

• Not to be taken concurrently with MAOIs
• Avoid with serotonin agonists, neuroleptics
• Avoid with cimetidine, alcohol, ketoconazole
• Avoid with itraconazole, macrolide antibiotics

Contraindications

• Should not be used if the patient enters a manic phase

• Palpitation
• Postural hypotension
• Coughing
• Yawning
• Confusion
• Impaired concentration
• Amnesia
• Migraine
• Taste disturbance
• Increased salivation
• Rhinitis
• Tinnitus
• Micturition disorders

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy only if benefits justify risks
• Consider risks of exposure for infants during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Use with caution in patients with epilepsy
• Use with caution in patients with cardiac disease
• Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus
• Use with caution in patients with angle-closure glaucoma
• Use with caution in patients with history of bleeding disorders
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic and renal impairment

Overdose Effects

• Doses as high as 2000 mg have been taken without alteration in cardiovascular parameters
• Possible respiratory depression
• Possibility of convulsions

• SSRIs & related anti-depressant drugs
