Indications

  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)

Pharmacology

  • Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI)
  • Selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SSNRI)
  • Orally administered
  • Hepatic metabolism

Dosage & Administration

  • Starting Dose: 40 mg/day to 60 mg/day
  • Target Dose: Acute - 40 mg/day to 60 mg/day
  • Maximum Dose: 120 mg/day
  • Some patients may benefit from starting at 30 mg once daily
  • Gradual dose reduction recommended

Interaction

  • Metabolism by CYP1A2 and CYP2D6 isozymes
  • Co-administration with fluvoxamine
  • Inhibitors of CYP1A2 metabolism
  • Concomitant use with potent CYP2D6 inhibitors

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug or inactive ingredients
  • Bipolar depression
  • Substantial alcohol use
  • Chronic liver disease
  • Controlled narrow-angle glaucoma
