Indications
- Depressive illness
- Bulimia nervosa

Pharmacology
Selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 20mg/day
- Maximum dose of 80mg/day
- Maintenance dose of 60mg/day for bulimia nervosa
- Not recommended for use in children
Interaction
- MAO inhibitors may cause serious reactions
- Antidepressants may have increased plasma levels
- Potential interactions with lithium, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, and CNS active drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fluoxetine
- Concomitant use with MAOIs or within 14 days of discontinuing Fluoxetine
- At least 5 weeks washout period before starting MAOI
Side Effects
- Gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, dry mouth
- Neurological effects like anxiety, insomnia, fatigue
- Excessive sweating and skin rashes
Pregnancy & Lactation
Caution advised for use in pregnancy and nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with impaired hepatic or renal function
- Use with caution in diabetic subjects and those with epilepsy
- Close supervision for depressed patients with suicidal tendencies
