- Major Depressive Disorder
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Pharmacology
- Potentiation of serotonergic activity
- Inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin
- Little affinity for muscarinic, alpha1, alpha2, beta adrenergic, dopamine (D2), 5-HT1, 5 HT2 and histamine (H1)-receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Usual Initial Dosage: 20 mg/day
- Maintenance Therapy: Systematic evaluation up to 1 year with doses averaging about 30 mg
Interaction
- Absorption unaffected by food or antacids
- Potential interaction with Tryptophan
- Metabolism affected by drugs inducing or inhibiting hepatic drug metabolizing enzymes
- Concomitant use with alcohol in depressed patients not advised
- Limited effect on sedation when combined with haloperidol, amylobarbitone or oxazepam
- Potential interaction with monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors
- Caution required when co-administered with lithium
Contraindications
- Concomitant use with MAOIs or thioridazine
- Hypersensitivity to Paroxetine

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution advised when treating patients with cardiac conditions
- Caution required in patients with epilepsy
- Melev should be discontinued in any patient who develops seizures
- Little clinical experience of concurrent administration with ECT
- Caution required in patients driving or operating machinery
- Taper phase regimen employed for discontinuation of treatment
Use in Special Populations
- Recommended initial dose: 10 mg/day for elderly patients, debilitated patients, and/or patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment
