Pharmacology
- Potentiation of serotonergic activity
- Inhibition of neuronal reuptake of serotonin
- Selective inhibitor of neuronal serotonin reuptake
- Little affinity for various receptors
- Inhibition of muscarinic, histaminergic and alpha1-adrenergic receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Usual Initial Dosage 20 mg/day
- Maintenance Therapy dosage adjustments
- 20 mg/day initial dose for various disorders
- Dose changes at intervals of at least 1 week
Interaction
- Absorption not affected by food or antacids
- Potential interaction with Tryptophan
- Affected by drug metabolizing enzyme inducers/inhibitors
- Caution advised with alcohol and MAOIs
- Potential interaction with lithium and anticonvulsants
- Caution advised with warfarin
Contraindications
- Concomitant use with MAOIs or thioridazine
- Hypersensitivity to Paroxetine

Use in Special Populations
- Recommended initial dose for elderly, debilitated, severe renal or hepatic impairment 10 mg/day
