Indications
- Major depressive disorder (MDD)

Pharmacology
- Potent and selective inhibitory action on CNS neuronal reuptake of 5-HT
- Increased 5-HT concentrations at the synaptic clefts
- Improvement of depression
- Reduction of Serotonin turnover in the brain
- Prolonged elimination half-life for once daily administration
Dosage & Administration
- Starting dose for adults with major depressive disorder or obsessive-compulsive disorder: 50 mg
- Therapeutic range for adults with major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and social anxiety disorder: 50-200 mg
- Starting dose for pediatric patients (ages 6-12 years old) with obsessive-compulsive disorder: 25 mg
- Recommended interval between dose changes: one week
- Starting dosage for premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD): 50 mg/day
- Option for continuous or intermittent dosing for PMDD
- Continuous dosage: patients not responding to a 50 mg dosage may benefit from dosage increases at 50 mg increments per menstrual cycle up to 150 mg per day
- Intermittent dosage: patients not responding to a 50 mg dosage may benefit from increasing the dosage up to a maximum of 100 mg per day during the next menstrual cycle (and subsequent cycles)
Interaction
- Potential effects of co-administration of drugs that are highly bound to plasma proteins
- Possible interactions with drugs such as cimetidine, CNS active drugs, hypoglycemic drugs, atenolol, etc.
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Sertraline or any of the excipients of the drug
- Moderate to severe hepatic impairment
