Description
Mirapin Tablets are indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). The mechanism of action of Mirtazapine involves enhancement of central noradrenergic and serotonergic activity by acting as an antagonist at central presynaptic α2-adrenergic inhibitory autoreceptors and heteroreceptors. Mirtazapine is also a potent antagonist of 5- HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors. It has a moderate peripheral α1-adrenergic antagonist effect and is a moderate antagonist at muscarinic receptors. The recommended starting dose for adults is 15 mg/day, with a maximum dose of 45 mg/day. Mirapin has clinically significant drug-drug interactions with Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOI) & other serotonergic drugs, and is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Mirtazapine or MAO inhibitors. Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased appetite, and weight gain. It falls under Pregnancy Category-C and should be stored below 30°C, away from light and moisture.
