Indications
- Treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD)
Pharmacology
- Enhances central noradrenergic and serotonergic activity
- Acts as an antagonist at central presynaptic α2-adrenergic inhibitory autoreceptors
- Potent antagonist of 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors
- Moderate peripheral α1-adrenergic antagonist
- Moderate antagonist at muscarinic receptors
- Rapid and well-absorbed after oral administration
- Half-life of elimination of 20-40 hours
- Extensively metabolized and eliminated via urine and faeces
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: Recommended starting dose of 15 mg/day, effective dose range of 15 to 45 mg/day
- Use in children: Not recommended
- Missed Dose: Take missed dose as soon as remembered, skip if close to next dose
Interaction
- Clinically significant drug-drug interactions with MAOIs and serotonergic drugs
- May interrupt the metabolism or activity of certain drugs
- Avoid alcohol and diazepam
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Mirtazapine or excipients
- Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors
