Enhances central noradrenergic and serotonergic activity
Acts as an antagonist at central presynaptic α2-adrenergic inhibitory autoreceptors and heteroreceptors
Antagonist of 5-HT2 and 5-HT3 receptors
Potent antagonist of histamine (H1) receptors
Moderate peripheral α1-adrenergic antagonist
Moderate antagonist at muscarinic receptors
Rapid and well-absorbed after oral administration
Half-life of elimination is 20-40 hours
Extensively metabolized and eliminated via urine and faeces

Recommended starting dose: 15 mg/day
Effective dose range: 15 to 45 mg/day
Adult dose administered in a single dose, preferably in the evening or prior to sleep
Dose changes should be made at intervals of less than 1 to 2 weeks
Use in children not recommended
Guidelines for missed dose

Clinically significant drug-drug interactions with MAOIs & other serotonergic drugs
May interrupt the metabolism or activity of certain drugs
Patient should avoid alcohol & diazepam while taking Rapine

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Mirtazapine or any of the excipients
Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors is contraindicated
Should not be used within 14 days of initiating or discontinuing therapy with an MAOI

Pregnancy Category-C
Patients should notify their physician if they become pregnant or intend to become pregnant during therapy
Patients should notify their physician if they are breastfeeding an infant

Patients, families, and caregivers should be alert to the emergence of certain behaviors
Patients should be warned about the risk of developing agranulocytosis
May impair judgment, thinking, and motor skills
Clinically significant ALT (SGPT) elevations may occur
