Indications

Description
Tranquilizer of the phenothiazine type combined with a tricyclic antidepressant effective for patients suffering from anxiety or depression, restoring functional ability without developing drug dependence
Pharmacology
- Nortriptyline hydrochloride: Inhibits the uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at nerve terminals
- Fluphenazine: Acts as a neuroleptic drug with potent dopamine (especially D2) receptor antagonism
Dosage & Administration
Adults: One tablet 2 to 3 times daily
Interaction
Interactions with barbiturates, alcohol, and narcotic drugs may occur
Contraindications
- History of gradual epilepsy or organic brain damage
- Blood dyscrasia
- Severe cardiac insufficiency
- Renal or liver damage
- Patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
- Younger children
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation
Side Effects
Tardive dyskinesias, blood dyscrasia, malignant neuroleptic syndrome, sudden death, agranulocytosis
Pregnancy & Lactation
Safety in human pregnancy not established, not recommended during lactation as it is excreted in breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
Precautions in patients with glaucoma, prostate enlargement, cardiac failure, myocardial infarction, and in concurrent administration with CNS depressants. May impair alertness and abilities to drive or operate machinery
