Description
Tranquilizer of the phenothiazine type, tricyclic antidepressant, effective in anxiety and depression, non-addictive
Pharmacology
- Nortriptyline hydrochloride: Inhibits uptake of norepinephrine and serotonin
- Fluphenazine: Tranquilizer with potent dopamine (specially D2) receptor antagonism
Dosage & Administration
One tablet 2 to 3 times daily for adults
Interaction
May interact with barbiturates, alcohol, and narcotic drugs
Contraindications
- History of gradual epilepsy or organic brain damage
- Blood dyscrasia
- Severe cardiac insufficiency
- Renal or liver damage
- Patients taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI)
- Younger children
- Hypersensitivity to any component
Side Effects
- Tardive dyskinesias
- Blood dyscrasia
- Malignant Neuroleptic syndrome
- Sudden death
- Agranulocytosis
