- Anti-vasoconstrictor properties

Pharmacology
- Antihistamine
- Labyrinthine sedative
- Peripheral antivasoconstrictor
- Selective calcium antagonist
- Inhibition of Ca2+ influx
- Improves vestibular symptoms
- Prevents peripheral arterial disease
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose: 15 to 30 mg three times daily
- Children (5 to 12 years): Half of the adult dose
- Motion sickness: 30 mg two hours before journey, 15 mg every 8 hours during journey
- Peripheral arterial diseases: 75 mg two or three times daily
Interaction
- No drug interactions with antihypertensives
- No drug interactions with diuretics
- No drug interactions with anticoagulants
- No drug interactions with hypoglycaemics
Contraindications
- No specific contraindications
- Decreases blood pressure significantly
- Use with caution in hypotensive patients
Side Effects
- Rare somnolence
- Rare gastrointestinal disturbances
- Transient and preventable by optimal dosage adjustment
- Rare allergic skin reactions
- Rare fatigue
- Rare aggravation/appearance of extrapyramidal symptoms in elderly
- Reduction or stoppage of treatment in case of symptoms
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety in human pregnancy not established
- Animal studies show no teratogenic effects
- Not advisable to administer in pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause drowsiness
- Patients should not drive or operate machinery if affected
- Avoid alcoholic drink
