Indications

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Motion sickness
• Vertigo

Pharmacology

• Antiemetic properties
• Anticholinergic properties
• Antihistaminic properties
• Reduces sensitivity of labyrinthine apparatus
• Onset of action 30-60 minutes
• Duration of action 12-24 hours

Dosage & Administration

• Adult dosage 25-50 mg once daily
• Motion sickness initial dose 25-50 mg, repeat every 24 hours
• Vertigo dosage 25-100 mg daily in divided doses
• Radiotherapy induced nausea and vomiting dosage 50 mg
• Emergency contraception dosage 25-50 mg
• Use in children should be determined by physician
• Use in elderly: no specific information available

Interaction

• Increased toxicity with CNS depressants, neuroleptics and anticholinergic
• Increased drowsiness with alcohol, sedatives, tranquilizers

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Meclizine or excipients

Overdose Effects

• Symptoms: Extreme excitability, seizures, drowsiness, hallucinations
• Treatment: Supportive and symptomatic treatment, consider dialysis
