Indications

Pharmacology
- Piperazine-derivative antihistamine
- Antiemetic
- Anticholinergic
- Antihistaminic
- Reduces sensitivity of the labyrinthine apparatus
- Pyridoxine is vitamin B-6
Dosage & Administration
- 25-50 mg daily for nausea and vomiting
- Take 25-50 mg for motion sickness 1 hour prior to travel
- 50 mg for radiation sickness 2-12 hours prior to treatment
- 25-100 mg daily in divided doses for vertigo
- 25-50 mg for prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) 1 hour before first ECP dose
Interaction
- Potentiation with Ethanol or other CNS depressant agents
- Potentiation with Benzodiazepines
- Potentiation with Barbiturates
- Potentiation with Tricyclic antidepressants
- Potentiation with Opiate agonists
- Potentiation with Skeletal muscle relaxants
- Potentiation with Antihistamines
- Increase in absorption of digoxin by decreasing gastrointestinal motility
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Meclizine Hydrochloride
- Hypersensitivity to Pyridoxine Hydrochloride
Side Effects
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
- Blurred vision (rare)
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Low risk of teratogenicity
- Suggested drug of first choice for treating nausea and vomiting during pregnancy
- Safety not established for nursing mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Impairment of ability to perform hazardous activities
- Avoid alcoholic beverages
- Caution in patients with asthma
- Caution in patients with glaucoma
- Caution in patients with enlargement of the prostate gland
Overdose Effects
- Extreme excitability
- Seizures
- Drowsiness
- Hallucinations
- Appropriate supportive and symptomatic treatment
- Consider dialysis
