Indications

Pharmacology
- Piperazine-derivative antihistamine
- Antiemetic
- Anticholinergic properties
- Antihistaminic properties
- Reduces sensitivity of labyrinthine apparatus
- Mediated through nerve pathways to the vomiting center
- Action may be mediated through peripheral nerve pathways or other CNS centers
- Pyridoxine is added to enhance anti-emetic effects
- Pyridoxine is added as a dietary supplement
Dosage & Administration
- 25-50 mg daily for adults and children 12 years of age & over for nausea and vomiting
- Initial dose of 25-50 mg for motion sickness, repeat every 24 hours during travel
- 50 mg administered 2-12 hours prior to radiation treatment for radiation sickness
- 25-100 mg daily in divided doses for vertigo
- 25-50 mg 1 hour before emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) dose, repeat if needed in 24 hours
- Not established for use in children less than 12 years of age
Interaction
- Potentiated by concurrent use of Ethanol or other CNS depressant agents
- Concurrent use of anticholinergics can potentiate the anticholinergic effects
- Can increase the absorption of digoxin by decreasing gastrointestinal motility
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Meclizine Hydrochloride and Pyridoxine Hydrochloride

- Blurred vision (rare)
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category B
- Suggested lowest risk of teratogenicity
- Drug of first choice in treating nausea and vomiting during pregnancy
- Safety for use in nursing mother not established
Precautions & Warnings
- May impair ability to perform hazardous activities requiring mental alertness or physical coordination
- Avoid alcoholic beverages
- Use with caution in patients with asthma, glaucoma, or enlargement of the prostate gland
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms: Extreme excitability, seizures, drowsiness, hallucinations
- Treatment: Appropriate supportive and symptomatic treatment, consider dialysis
