Description

Pharmacology
- Dopamine & histamine antagonist
- Blockade of histamine H & dopamine D2 neurotransmitter receptors
- Weak anticholinergic effect
- Prevention of acid reflux by increasing the tone of the lower esophageal sphincter
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage varies for children and adults for antiemetic use
- Dosage varies for children and adults for antipsychotic use
- Dosage for nonpsychotic anxiety
- Can be administered without regard to the meal
Interaction
- Increased CNS depressant action with alcohol, barbiturates, and other sedatives
- Interference with the absorption of certain drugs like antacids, antiparkinson's drugs, and lithium
- Interference with the plasma concentration of Propanolol and Phenobarbital
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to prochlorperazine or any component of the formulation
- Severe CNS depression
- Coma
- Not to be used in children less than 2 years of age or less than 10 kg
