Indications
- Control severe nausea and vomiting
- Relieve attacks of dizziness or spinning sensations
- Treat psychotic illness such as schizophrenia
- Treat acute mania
- Treat generalized non-psychotic anxiety
Pharmacology
Dopamine & histamine antagonist; blockade of histamine H & dopamine D2 neurotransmitter receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Specific dosages for children and adults for antiemetic and antipsychotic uses
- Usual doses for nonpsychotic anxiety
- Administration without regard to the meal
Interaction
- Increased CNS depressant action with alcohol, barbiturates, and sedatives
- Interference with absorption by antacids, antiparkinson's drugs, and lithium
- Interference with plasma concentration of Propranolol and Phenobarbital
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to prochlorperazine or any component
- Severe CNS depression
- Not for children <2 years of age or <10 kg
