Indications

Description
- Histamine analog
- Relieves vertigo symptoms
- Improves circulation in the inner ear
- Reduces pressure on the membranous labyrinth
Pharmacology
- Acts as a histamine H1-receptor agonist
- Causes vasodilatory effect
- Reduces endolymphatic pressure
- Increases vestibulocochlear blood flow
- Reduces asymmetrical functioning of sensory vestibular organs
- Increases neurotransmitter levels
- Inhibits vestibular nuclei activity
Dosage & Administration
- Initial treatment 8-16mg three times daily
- Maintenance doses 24-48mg daily
- Should be taken with meals
- Daily dose should not exceed 48mg
- Dosage adjustment based on individual needs
- Improvement may be observed after a few weeks of treatment
Interaction
- No proven hazardous interactions
- Case report of interaction with ethanol and a compound containing pyrimethamine with dapsone
- Potential potentiation with salbutamol
- Concurrent administration of H1 antagonists may cause mutual attenuation of effect
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with phaeochromocytoma
- Hypersensitivity to the active substance

- Possible gastrointestinal disturbances
- Headache
- Rashes
- Pruritus
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety not completely established in human pregnancy
- No known teratogenic effect in animals
- Excreted in breast milk with unknown neonatal toxicity
Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients with peptic ulcer or history of peptic ulceration
- Caution in patients with bronchial asthma
- Caution in patients with urticaria, rashes, or allergic rhinitis
- Caution in patients with severe hypotension
- Not for patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption
- Rare reports of drowsiness
- Adverse effects on ability to drive and use machines
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, ataxia, seizures
- More serious complications observed in cases of intentional overdose especially in combination with other drugs
- No specific antidote
- Gastric lavage and symptomatic treatment recommended
