Indications
- Relief of symptoms in adults with acute and recurrent diabetic gastroparesis
- Treatment for gastroesophageal reflux in adults who fail to respond to conventional therapy
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting
- Facilitation of small bowel intubation in adults and pediatric patients
- Stimulation of gastric emptying and intestinal transit of barium
Pharmacology
Blocks dopamine and serotonin receptors, enhances response to acetylcholine, accelerates gastric emptying, increases lower esophageal sphincter tone
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dosage for adults less than 65 years of age
- Recommended dosage for adults 65 years of age and older
- Continuous and intermittent administration for gastroesophageal reflux
- Administration for acute and recurrent diabetic gastroparesis
- Relief of symptoms associated with diabetic gastroparesis
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting
Contraindications
- History of tardive dyskinesia or dystonic reaction to metoclopramide
- Dangerous stimulation of gastrointestinal motility
- Presence of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
- Pheochromocytoma or other catecholamine-releasing paragangliomas
- Epilepsy
- Hypersensitivity to metoclopramide

Pregnancy & Lactation

- No impairment of fertility or significant harm to the fetus in animal studies

Precautions & Warnings
- Tardive Dyskinesia (TD), Other Extrapyramidal Symptoms (EPS), and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)
- Avoid concomitant use of other drugs known to cause TD/EPS/NMS
- Avoid use in patients with Parkinson's Disease
- Depression and suicidal ideation/suicide
