Description

Nutramid Nasal Spray is a medication used for the relief of symptoms in adults with acute and recurrent diabetic gastroparesis, and it blocks dopamine and serotonin receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the central nervous system.

Dosage Forms

Age Recommendation

  • For adults less than 65 years of age
  • For adults 65 years of age and older

Dosage Administration

  • 1 spray (15 mg) in one nostril, 30 minutes before each meal and at bedtime
  • 10 to 15 mg, 30 minutes before each meal and at bedtime
  • 10 mg slowly by intravenous route over a 1- to 2-minute period
  • Intravenous infusions over a period of not less than 15 minutes

Recommended Usage Duration

  • 2 to 8 weeks, depending on symptomatic response
  • 4 to 12 weeks

Contraindications

  • History of tardive dyskinesia or a dystonic reaction to metoclopramide
  • Stimulation of gastrointestinal motility might be dangerous
  • In the presence of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, mechanical obstruction, or perforation
  • In patients with pheochromocytoma or other catecholamine-releasing paragangliomas
  • In patients with epilepsy
  • In patients with hypersensitivity to metoclopramide

Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.

Warning

  • Tardive Dyskinesia (TD), Other Extrapyramidal Symptoms (EPS), and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS)
  • Depression and suicidal ideation/suicide
