Indications
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Dosage
- 8 mg tablet/orodispersible tablet for adults and pediatric patients
- 4 mg orodispersible tablet for adults and pediatric patients
- Injection dose for adults and pediatric patients
- Oral solution dosage for adults/greiatric/child of 12 years or over
- Recommended oral dosage for radiotherapy induced nausea and vomiting
- Film dosage for different conditions and age groups
Administration
- Tear the pouch carefully along the edge tear mark
- Put the Ondansetron film on top of your tongue and let it dissolve within 20 seconds
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves. It can be swallowed with or without liquid
- Wash hands after taking the film
Interaction
- Anset does not induce or inhibit the cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzyme system of the liver
- Inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes may change the clearance of Anset
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients known to have hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse events: headache, constipation, diarrhea, rash, flushing or warmth, hiccups, liver enzyme abnormalities
- Rare cases of: anaphylaxis, brochospasm, tachycardia, angina, hypokalemia, shortness of breath
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Carcinogenic effects not seen in 2-year studies in rats and mice with oral Ondansetron doses
- Ondansetron was not mutagenic in standard tests for mutagenicity
- Reproduction studies with Ondansetron in pregnant rats and rabbits have revealed no evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients who have exhibited hypersensitivity to other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Anset is not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
