Indications
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic cancer chemotherapy

Description
- Orally dissolving film
- Dissolves within 20 seconds
- Active ingredient: Osetron base
- Selective blocking agent of serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type
- Empirical formula: C18H19N3O
Pharmacology
- Potent, highly selective 5HT3 receptor-antagonist
- Mode of action not fully known
- Blocks initiation of vomiting reflex
- Antagonizes 5HT3 receptors in peripheral and central nervous system
- Mechanisms of action in post-operative nausea and vomiting not known
Dosage
- Different doses for emetogenic cancer chemotherapy and radiotherapy
- Oral tablets, orodispersible tablets, and injections

Administration

Interaction
- Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
- Inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes may affect clearance
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse events: headache, constipation, diarrhea
- Rash in approximately 1% of patients receiving Osetron
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, tachycardia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to fetus in animal studies
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats
- Caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported
- Not a drug that stimulates gastric or intestinal peristalsis
- Caution in patients following abdominal surgery or with chemotherapy-induced nausea
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
- Limited information about dosage in pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
