Description
- Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue
- Dissolves within 20 seconds
- Swallowed with saliva
- Does not require water for dissolution or swallowing
- Active ingredient: Ondansetron base, a racemic form of Ondansetron
Indications
- Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with emetogenic cancer chemotherapy
- Prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting
- Prevention of radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Dosage
- 8 mg orodispersible tablet
- 4 mg orodispersible tablet

- Recommended dosages for adults, pediatric patients (6 months to 18 years)
- Different dosages based on the emetogenicity of chemotherapy
- Special dosage adjustments for pediatric patients and patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
Mode of Action
- Selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type
- Antagonist of 5HT3 receptors in the peripheral and central nervous system
- Blockade of the initiation of vomiting reflex
Administration
- Tear the pouch carefully along with the edge tear mark
- Place the oral soluble film on top of the tongue
- Do not chew or swallow the film whole
- Swallow after the film dissolves
- No water required for administration
- Hand washing after administration
Interaction
- Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
- Effects on clearance and half-life if used with inducers or inhibitors of these enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Frequently reported adverse events: headache, constipation, diarrhea
- Occurrence of rash, sensation of flushing or warmth, hiccups, liver enzyme abnormalities
- Rare cases of anaphylaxis, brochospasm, tachycardia, angina, hypokalemia, shortness of breath
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus in animal studies
- Caution advised during nursing period
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients hypersensitive to similar drugs
- Should not be used instead of nasogastric suction
- May mask progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Use in Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment for patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
- Limited information for patients 4 years of age or younger
