Mode of Action
Selective blocking agent of the serotonin 5-HT3 receptor type
Dosage
- Available in 4 mg and 8 mg orodispersible tablets
- Injected doses based on body weight for adults and pediatric patients
- Specific dosages for different types of chemotherapy and radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting
Administration
- Orally dissolving film designed to be applied on top of the tongue
- Does not require water to aid dissolution or swallowing
- Dissolves within 20 seconds
Interactions
Metabolized by hepatic cytochrome P-450 drug-metabolizing enzymes
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug or any of its components
- Concomitant use of apomorphine
Side Effects
- Common: headache, constipation, diarrhea, rash
- Rare: anaphylaxis, brochospasm, tachycardia, angina, hypokalemia, shortness of breath
- No evidence of extrapyramidal reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- No evidence of carcinogenic effects or mutagenicity in animal studies
- No impairment of fertility or harm to fetus observed in animal studies
- Excreted in the breast milk of rats, caution in nursing women
Precautions & Warnings
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported in patients with hypersensitivity to other selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonists
- Not to be used in place of nasogastric suction
- May mask a progressive ileus and/or gastric distension
Special Populations
- Dosage adjustment not needed for patients with impaired renal function
- Special dosage recommendation for patients with severe hepatic impairment
- Limited information available for pediatric patients 4 years of age or younger
