Description
- Panoset is indicated for acute and delayed nausea and vomiting, uncontrolled nausea and vomiting, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, radiotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, post-operative & post-discharge nausea and vomiting. It is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with linear dose-proportional pharmacokinetics and exhibits a longer half-life and greater 5-HT3 receptor binding affinity. The usual adult dosage for tablets is 0.5 mg daily and for IV administration is 0.075 mg over 10 seconds. It can be administered with corticosteroids, analgesics, antiemetics, antispasmodics, and anticholinergic agents without significant interactions. Palonosetron is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the drug or its components. The most common adverse reactions are headaches and constipation. It has a pregnancy category 'B' and use in elderly patients, children, and patients with impaired renal and hepatic function does not require dosage adjustment. There is no known antidote to Panoset, and overdose should be managed with supportive care. It belongs to the therapeutic class of anti-emetic drugs and should be stored in a cool and dry place, protected from light.
