Indications

  • Treatment of panic disorder
  • Adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome

Interaction

  • No alteration of pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, carbamazepine or phenobarbital

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
  • Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
  • Contraindicated in acute narrow angle glaucoma

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Potential for producing congenital malformations

Precautions & Warnings

  • May increase the incidence or precipitate the onset of generalized tonic-clonic seizures in certain patients
  • Concomitant use of valproic acid and Clonium may produce absence status

Use in Special Populations

  • Increased production of saliva and bronchial secretion in infants and small children
  • Benzodiazepine pharmacologic effects appear greater in elderly patients
  • Renal impairment does not affect the pharmacokinetics of Clonium

Overdose Effects

  • Common symptoms include drowsiness, ataxia, dysarthria, and nystagmus
  • Overdose effects may lead to areflexia, apnoea, hypotension, and coma
