Indications
- Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
- Adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
- Treatment of akinetic and myoclonic seizures
- Treatment of absence seizures (petit mal) resistant to succinimides

Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose for adults with seizure disorders should not exceed 1.5 mg/day divided into three doses
- Initial dose for adults with panic disorder is 0.25 mg given in two divided doses
- Dosage may be increased in increments of 0.5 to 1 mg every 3 days
- Maintenance dosage must be individualized for each patient
- Maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg
- Pediatric patients initial dose should be between 0.01 and 0.03 mg/kg/day
- Injection dosage for infants, children, and adults
Interaction
- No apparent alteration of the pharmacokinetics of certain drugs
- Effect on the metabolism of other drugs not investigated
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
- Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
- Contradicted in acute narrow angle glaucoma

- Possible irregularities in the heartbeat of the unborn child with high doses
- Active ingredient passes into maternal milk in small amounts
- Breastfeeding to be discontinued if there is a compelling indication to administer the drug
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased incidence or precipitation of generalized tonic-clonic seizures in certain patients
- Concomitant use with valproic acid may produce absence status
Use in Special Populations
- Causes increased production of saliva and bronchial secretion in infants and small children
- Benzodiazepine pharmacologic effects appear to be greater in elderly patients
- Renal impairment does not affect the pharmacokinetics
- Influence of hepatic impairment on pharmacokinetics not fully investigated
Overdose Effects
- Symptoms such as drowsiness, ataxia, dysarthria, nystagmus
- Rarely life-threatening when taken alone
- Potential for areflexia, apnoea, hypotension, cardiorespiratory depression, coma
- Increased frequency of seizures may occur at supratherapeutic plasma concentrations
