Description
Xetril 2 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia, as well as an adjunct in the treatment of the Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, akinetic and myoclonic seizures. It exhibits pharmacological properties common to benzodiazepines, including anticonvulsive, sedative, muscle relaxing, and anxiolytic effects. Dosage varies for adults and pediatric patients with specific instructions for oral and injection administration. It is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines and those with clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease. Common side effects include CNS depression, drowsiness, ataxia, and behavior problems. Pregnancy and lactation precautions are advised due to the possibility of producing congenital malformations. Precautions should be taken in patients with multiple seizure disorders and concomitant use of valproic acid. Storage conditions involve keeping the product in a dry place away from light and heat, and out of the reach of children. It is classified under the therapeutic class of adjunct anti-epileptic drugs and benzodiazepine hypnotics.
