Indications

  • Treatment of panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
  • Adjunct in the treatment of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome
  • Treatment of akinetic and myoclonic seizures
  • Treatment of absence seizures (petit mal)

Pharmacology

  • Exhibits anticonvulsive effects
  • Sedative properties
  • Muscle relaxing effects
  • Anxiolytic effects
  • Enhances GABAergic neurotransmission

Dosage & Administration

  • Initial adult dose not to exceed 1.5 mg/day
  • Maintenance dosage individualized based on response
  • Maximum recommended daily dose is 20 mg
  • Initial dose for panic disorder: 0.25 mg given in two divided doses

Interaction

  • Does not alter the pharmacokinetics of phenytoin, carbamazepine, or phenobarbital

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines
  • Clinical or biochemical evidence of significant liver disease
  • Acute narrow angle glaucoma

Use in Special Populations

  • Increased production of saliva and bronchial secretion in infants and small children
  • Benzodiazepine pharmacologic effects greater in elderly patients

Reconstitution
