Gabamax 300 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Neuropathic Pain
• Adjunctive therapy in partial seizure and secondary generalized seizure

Pharmacology

• Anti-convulsant
• Structural analog of gamma-amino-butyric-acid (GABA)
• Binds with the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage gated L-type Calcium channel
• Inhibits branched chain amino acid transferase
• Inhibits neurotransmitter release of excitatory amino acid

Dosage

• Neuropathic Pain: Initiate treatment with a single 300 mg dose on Day-1, followed by 300 mg twice on Day-2 and 300 mg thrice on Day-3
• Epilepsy: Effective dose for patients over 12 years of age is 900 to 1800 mg/day given in three divided doses

Administration

Oral administration, can be taken with or without food

Interaction

• Antacids may reduce bioavailability by up to 20%
• Cimetidine may alter renal excretion

Contraindications

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug

Pregnancy category C, potential risk in pregnancy and lactation must be justified with potential benefits

Precautions & Warnings

Patients should follow prescription instructions, cautioned against driving or operating machinery until effects are known

Use in Special Populations

Doses must be reduced in renal impaired patients
