Indications
- Neuropathic Pain
- Adjunctive therapy in partial seizure and secondary generalized seizure
Pharmacology
- Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant.
- Structural analog of gamma-amino-butyric-acid (GABA)
- Binds with the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage gated L-type Calcium channel
- Inhibits branched chain amino acid transferase
- Inhibits neurotransmitter release of excitatory amino acid
Dosage
- For Neuropathic Pain: Initial 300 mg dose on Day-1, 300 mg twice on Day-2, 300 mg thrice on Day-3
- Epilepsy: Effective dose of 900 to 1800 mg/day for patients over 12 years of age in three divided doses
- Starting dose for pediatric patients age 3-12 year: 10-15 mg/kg/day in 3 divided doses
Administration
- Oral intake with or without food
Interaction
- Antacids may reduce bioavailability by up to 20%
- Cimetidine may alter reanal excretion
- No interaction with other anti-epileptic drugs or oral contraceptive preparations

- Known hypersensitivity to the drug
