Indications
- Neuropathic Pain
- Adjunctive therapy in partial seizure and secondary generalized seizure
Pharmacology
- Anti-convulsant
- Structural analog of gamma-amino-butyric-acid (GABA)
- Binds with the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage gated L-type Calcium channel
- Inhibits branched chain amino acid transferase
- Inhibits neurotransmitter release of excitatory amino acid
Dosage
- Initiation with a single 300 mg dose on Day-1
- Titration to a daily dose of 1800 mg for neuropathic pain
- Effective dose of 900 to 1800 mg/day for epilepsy
- Starting dose of 300 mg three times a day for patients over 12 years
- Starting dose of 10-15 mg/kg/day for paediatric patients aged 3-12 years
Administration
Oral administration with or without food
Interaction
- Reduction in bioavailability with antacids
- Alteration in renal excretion with cimetidine
- No interaction with other anti-epileptic drugs or oral contraceptive preparations
Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug

Pregnancy & Lactation

Precautions & Warnings
Patients should be instructed to take Gpentin only as prescribed. Patients should be instructed either not to drive a car or to operate other complex machinery until they have gained sufficient experiences about Gpentin whether or not it affects their mental and/or motor performance adversely.
