Description
Eletam is an anti-epileptic medicine indicated for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in adults, adolescents, and children from 1 month of age. It is also used in the treatment of myoclonic seizures and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
Indications
- Treatment of partial-onset seizures
- Adjunctive therapy
- Treatment of myoclonic seizures
- Treatment of primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures
Mechanism
The precise mechanism by which Eletam exerts its antiepileptic effect is unknown. It inhibits burst firing without affecting normal neuronal excitability, suggesting it may selectively prevent hyper synchronization of epileptiform burst firing and propagation of seizure activity.
