Indications

Mode of Action

Endowed with anti-epileptic activity
Increase brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)

Dosage & Administration

Tablets may be given once or twice daily
Syrup should be given in divided doses
Injection for adults: slow intravenous injection over 3-5 minutes
Injection for children: direct slow intravenous injection or infusion

Interaction

Non-specific inhibitor of drug metabolism
Significant interactions with Phenobarbital, Phenytoin, Warfarin, Aspirin

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to the drug
Liver dysfunction
Restricted use during pregnancy and in women of childbearing potential

Monitoring of liver functions before and during therapy
No undue potential for bleeding before major surgery
Care in renal impairment, pregnancy, breast-feeding, systemic lupus erythematosus
Sudden withdrawal should be avoided
