Side Effects
- Anorexia, nausea, vomiting
- CNS effects: sedation, ataxia, tremor
- Rash, alopecia, stimulation of appetite
- Elevation of liver enzymes
- Fulminate hepatitis (rare)
- Hepatic injury in children and those on multiple antiepileptic agents
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Crosses placenta
- Associated with neural tube defects in newborn
- Excreted in breast milk
- No risk during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitoring of liver functions
- Ensure no potential for bleeding before surgery
- Take care in renal impairment, pregnancy, and breastfeeding
- May lead to a false interpretation of urine ketone test
- Avoid sudden withdrawal of therapy
