Indications

Pharmacology
- Nonhormonal, nonestrogenic agent
- Inhibits secretion of prolactin
- Dopamine receptor agonist
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended to be taken with food
- Initial dosage range: 0.5 mg to 2.5 mg daily
- Dosage escalation for optimal therapeutic response
- Dosage not to exceed 100 mg/day
Interaction
- May interact with dopamine antagonists
- Decreased efficacy with certain agents
Contraindications
- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Sensitivity to any ergot alkaloids
- Pregnancy with hyperprolactinemia treatment
- Postpartum period in women with history of coronary artery disease
