Pharmacology
- Nonhormonal
- Nonestrogenic
- Dopamine receptor agonist
- Inhibits prolactin secretion
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dosage 0.5-2.5 mg daily
- Additional 2.5 mg tablet may be added as tolerated
- Dosage escalation with food
- Dosage should not exceed 100 mg/day
Interaction
- Interacts with dopamine antagonists
- Decreased efficacy with certain agents
- Contraindicated with other ergot alkaloids

- Uncontrolled hypertension
- Sensitivity to ergot alkaloids
- Postpartum period in women with cardiovascular conditions
