Description
Nootropil is a 'nootrope' that acts directly on the brain to improve cognitive function, memory, and learning. It is used in the treatment of cerebral vascular accidents, mental retardation in children, and behavioral and psychotic problems in old age.
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dose: 800 mg three times a day for cerebrocortical insufficiency disorders
- Children's dose: 50 mg/kg of body weight in three divided doses
Indications
- Improvement of cognitive function and learning ability
- Treatment of cerebral vascular accidents, including acute accidents, chronic manifestations, and atherosclerosis
- Aid in mental retardation in children for improved sociability and learning
- Management of behavioral and psychotic problems in old age, including memory deficits and adaptation disorders
Mode of Action
Acts on the telencephalon to improve cognition, learning, memory, alertness, and consciousness without producing sedation or stimulation. Modifies neurotransmission, improves metabolic environment, and enhances microcirculation.
Interaction
Potential interaction with thyroid extract causing confusion, irritability, and sleep disorders. No observed interaction with specific anti-epileptic drugs based on limited studies.
Contraindications
Contra-indicated in patients with severe renal insufficiency and hepatic impairment. Monitoring of renal function is recommended. Dosage adjustment is required based on creatinine clearance. Avoid use during pregnancy and lactation.

Pregnancy & Lactation
