Contraindications
- Chronic malabsorption syndrome
- Cholestasis
- Hypersensitivity to orlistat or any of the other ingredients of the capsules
Side Effects
- Commonly gastrointestinal in nature
- Oily spotting from the rectum
- Flatulence
- Fecal urgency
- Oily or fatty stool
- Abdominal discomfort
- Rare cases of influenza, anxiety, headache, and fatigue
- Rare cases of hypersensitivity
- Symptoms include pruritus, exanthema, urticaria, angioedema, and anaphylaxis
Pregnancy and Lactation
- Pregnancy Category X drug
- Contraindicated during pregnancy
- No potential benefit to pregnant women
- Caution advised when administered to nursing women
Precautions and Warnings
- Exclusion of organic causes of obesity before prescribing Ornical
- Avoid coadministration with cyclosporine
- Close monitoring of antidiabetic drug treatment during therapy
