Indications
- Treatment of non insulin dependent diabetes melitus (NIDDM)
- Ineffective in completely pancreatectomized patients and in juvenile-onset type of diabetes
- Control of blood sugar level
- Stimulation of endogenous insulin
Pharmacology
- Orally effective hypoglycaemic agent
- Reduces blood sugar concentration
- Stimulates secretion of endogenous insulin
- Reduction of basal hepatic glucose production
Dosage & Administration
- Initial stabilization dosage of half tablet (2.5 mg)
- Maintenance therapy with half tablet (2.5 mg)
- Maximum dosage of 3 tablets
- Changeover from insulin to Glibenclamide
Interaction
- Enhanced hypoglycemic effect with certain substances
Contraindications
- Severe metabolic de-compensation with acidosis
- Pre-comatose states and diabetic coma
- Severe renal or hepatic dysfunction
- Pregnancy
- Trauma or gangrene
