Indications
- Reduces blood sugar levels
- Used in type 2 diabetes Mellitus in adults
Pharmacology
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
- Decreases hepatic glucose output
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose of 40 to 80 mg daily
- Dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily
- Usual dose is one to four tablets daily in a single intake at breakfast time
Interaction
- Effect can be strengthened by other blood sugar-lowering medicines
- Effect may be weakened by medicines for central nervous system disorders
Contraindications
- Allergy to sulfonylurea group medicines
- Insulin-dependent diabetes
- Severe kidney or liver disease
- Breastfeeding
