Indications

  • Reduces blood sugar levels
  • Used in type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults

Pharmacology

Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta-cells, decreases hepatic glucose output

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual initial dose 40-80 mg daily
  • Max dose up to 320 mg daily
  • Modified release preparation
  • Dose determined by doctor
  • One to four tablets in a single intake at breakfast time
  • For children, Gliclazide is contraindicated in juvenile-onset diabetes

Interaction

  • Strengthened effect with other blood sugar lowering medicines
  • Weakened effect with certain medicines
