Indications
- Reduces blood sugar levels
- Oral antidiabetic medicine
- Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults
- Used when diet, exercise, and weight loss are not sufficient
Pharmacology
- Gliclazide is a second generation sulfonylurea drug
- Has hypoglycemic and hematological properties
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
- Decreases hepatic glucose output
Dosage & Administration
- Usual initial dose is 40 to 80 mg daily
- Dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily
- Dose determined by doctor based on blood sugar levels
