Description
- Reduces blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus

- Maximum daily dose can be 320 mg

Mode of Action
- Stimulates release of insulin from pancreatic cells
- Facilitates Ca+2 transport across the beta-cell membranes
- Decreases hepatic glucose output
Dosage & Administration
- Usual initial dose is 40 to 80 mg daily
- Maximum daily dose can be 320 mg
- Recommended to take before meal
- Recommended daily dose is one to four tablets (maximum 120 mg) in a single intake at breakfast time
- Tablet should be taken with a glass of water
- Must always eat a meal after taking the tablet
- Consult doctor before stopping medication
Interaction
- May be strengthened or weakened by various other medicines affecting blood sugar levels
- Recommended not to be taken with alcohol

Contraindications
- Allergic to gliclazide or related medicines
