Indications

  • Reduces blood sugar levels
  • Used in type 2 diabetes Mellitus in adults

Pharmacology

  • Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic cells
  • Decreases hepatic glucose output

Dosage & Administration

  • Usual initial dose is 40-80 mg daily
  • Dose can be increased up to 320 mg daily
  • Recommended daily dose for modified release preparation is 1-4 tablets (max 120 mg) in a single intake at breakfast time

Interaction

  • May be strengthened by other oral antidiabetic medicines
  • May be weakened by medicines treating central nervous system disorders
  • May increase effects of medicines reducing blood clotting

  • Allergic to sulfonylurea group medicines
